Hooray for Hellebores!

Published 15/02/2024

At a time of year when very little else is in flower, Hellebores provide such a welcome burst of colour in our gardens. They are also a great source of nectar for early pollinators. Their beautiful nodding blooms are available in a range of different colours and markings, and they have a really long flowering period. Flowering from December through until April depending on the variety, year after year, these perennials provide a real bang for your buck.

They prefer a spot in part shade in a fertile, moist but free draining soil. They look wonderful underplanted with spring bulbs, next to the vibrant winter stems of deciduous shrubs such as Cornus or Salix, or surrounded by colourful Heuchera. And if you don't have space in beds and borders, or if you don't have a garden, you can always grow a Hellebore in a pot. You can create some stunning combinations with plants such as Skimmia, ivy, ferns, grasses, heathers, cyclamen and bulbs.

Some of the finest examples of Hellebores are part of the 'Harvington Hellebores' range. With fantastic clarity of colour, and great form these beauties are sure to add some cheer to your winter and early spring garden. With white, pink, red, purple, yellow, apricot, deep blues and almost black there's a huge range of colours to choose from. We have all of these in stock now in our plant area.
