At The Mains of Drum we firmly believe in supporting local suppliers and the farming community around us. We are fortunate to live in an area which is rich in fresh locally grown produce that can be delivered to us within half an hour. We certainly take advantage of this position and take delight in being able to serve our customers the freshest locally sourced food from the surrounding area. By building up relationships with the local suppliers and farmers we have considerably reduced our carbon footprint and made lots of friends along the way.
Straight from local bees which harvest on flower and tree pollen in Inverurie, this tasty honey is high in local propolis and can be used as a natural remedy for hayfever if taken regularly through winter months and throughout the year. Yum!
Bert Fowlies The Butcher
The meat produce we use in The Restaurant and sell in the Food Hall is stocked only from local farms. Bert Fowlie, of Strichen, is a large supplier of our sausages, burgers, pies and freshly prepared ready-meals to take away. Producing the best cuts of home-grown meat such as the Aberdeen Angus and being well-known for butchery, this is not Fowlie's only talents... we also sell a selection of fine pieces such as scones, mixed fancies, sweet pies and cheesecakes - ready to be devoured!
If you haven't tasted Castleton Farm strawberries make sure you try them from The Mains of Drum. In peak season they are at their tastiest and juiciest - heavenly! Raspberries are also stocked in the Food Hall. The berries arrive from the fields of Laurencekirk, about an hour's drive from our store.
Our eggs are only a few minutes drive from The Mains of Drum. Katy and Doug Cruickshank farm a large area of free-range hens to obtain well cared for eggs. These freshly laid eggs are delivered to us for use in our restaurant and in the Food Hall. Taste the difference of organic, locally sourced, fresher food.
King Foods, from Aberdeen City, provide us with the finest dry stored foods, frozen products and fresh fish including North Sea haddock which we use in our delicious Cullen Skink. We use Kircaldy flour in our fresh baking and black haggis in our favourite dishes from The Restaurant. Extremely lucky to have these delights sourced right on our doorstep!
